Who we are

Who They Are:

RiverRescues ltd is a non-profit organization run by a small team of trained and dedicated volunteers. They rescue predominantly reptiles and exotics but also support other animals and pet owners in need of a helping hand.

AJ River is the founder of RiverRescues and has many years of experience. Himself, along with his team of volunteers and fosters, work in Edinburgh and around Scotland’s central belt to help rehoming and rehabilitating pets and wildlife around the clock, cleaning animal enclosures and offering pet boarding services. RiverRescues has helped animals suffering from neglect or abuse, with behavioural issues, those who are unwell or those who can simply no longer be cared for. They also support existing pet owners with everyday animal tasks.

They’ve Seen It All...

RiverRescues has dealt with very aggressive animals, animals with severe skin disorders and so much more. They have even helped animals with missing feet and tails!

The gist is, if they’re able to help they will.

Over the past year alone, RiverRescues has helped hundreds of animals, with animal support lasting from a couple of hours to a couple of months, all in order to prepare animals for their forever homes.

How They're Funded:

RiverRescues is a social enterprise, which means they run fully on the help of donations to support further rescues. Both cash and animal product donations are always welcome!

Any and all money made from donations, adoption fees or provided services goes back into helping other rescues.

About AJ River:

AJ started RiverRescues after a childhood of never fitting in, but finding his true comfort in caring for and loving animals.

When AJ was 15, he had the opportunity of volunteering in a zoo and working alongside incredible zookeepers and even more incredible animals, especially reptiles.

Here, AJ discovered his dream was to one day open his own rescue zoo.

After many years struggling, AJ has been working to make this dream possible, with the animals always being his biggest motivation.

With the help of fellow animal lovers, rescuers and yourselves, RiverRescues can continue expanding and doing the crucial to care for animals in need across Scotland!
